Firefighters Party with Jane and Brian A unique event hosted by Jane and Brian: Firefighters, fire trucks, fire safety house, BBQ, games, cake... This party has it all. Come meet our brave Santa Barbara firefighters. They will arrive after school to talk about fire safety and give SBMS students a detailed tour of their specialized fire safety house. Afterward there will be plenty of activities and games. Followed by a delicious (fire safety aware...) BBQ dinner. Join Juniper at the Natural History Museum for an afternoon of discovery, crafts and delicacies . Primary students will explore the museums treasures under Juniper's knowledgeable guidance. They will let their creativity flow and create stunning crafts and look for the perfect place for snacks during a creek side walk. What a glorious moment with their favorite teacher... Pony rides, hay wagon rides, making scarecrows and snacking on delicious treats all in the primary garden! Twelve primary children will delight in an afternoon of fun spent with their fabulous teacher Aran! JUNE 2010 Animal Encounter at the Zoo with Rosa All aboard the zoo train! Rosa will escort the toddler children to the wilds of the Serengeti with a behind the scenes tour of the Santa Barbara Zoo. There will be train rides, lunch and a surprise animal encounter. Enjoy the safari! Calling all wannabe Austin Powers, Dr. Evils, Mini-Me’s , Foxxy Cleopatras and other cool cats and hip chicks. Grab your mojos and swing over to the Fowler's for a smashing evening of fun, food and dancing. For those that prefer a more energetic evening than just dancing can provide; an Austin Powers themed obstacle course involving inflatable fat suits will also be provided. Though you may also lounge around in your spiffing velvet suits sipping groovy drinks . Yeah baby, yeah! Costumes are recommended... Back by Popular Demand! Knitting and Cocktails Party An exclusive cocktail and knitting party held at Loop and Leaf. You can work on a project selected by Celeste, contribute towards a group project or bring something of your own for expert attention. While knitting, sip on delicious cocktails and nibble at dainty delicacies. Yarn and needles are included.
A morning spent with Alejandra amidst the outstanding natural beauty of the Santa Barbara Botanic Gardens. Primary children will get the opportunity to explore and experience the gardens under Alejandra's supervision. Then they can create wonderful crafts and masterpieces followed by a gourmet picnic. Pie Lovers do we have the party for you! Spend an afternoon sampling some of your most favorite pies prepared by Simply Pies in Santa Barbara . Simply Pies is a specialist pie shop. They create mouth watering pies using fresh, local and organic ingredients. And after you have had your fill of tasting you can grab an apron and start baking. You will learn how to make a luscious chocolate cream pie and a double crusted berry pie. Yummy yummy! Can you name your favorite board game published since your kids were born? If so, you already know you’ll have a blast at the Rawlings' Game Party. If not, you probably think of board games as things like Monopoly and Candyland. Well, you’re in for a treat! Modern board games, mostly published in Europe, are fantastic: interesting decisions to make, fun interactions, and satisfying games that last 30-90 minutes. We’ll play as many and as long as you like – from classics like Settlers of Cataan, Carcasonne, and Ticket to Ride, to newer hits like Agricola, Race for the Galaxy, Alhambra, Elfenland, Puerto Rico, Bohnanza, Ingenious, Blokus, Pandemic, and many more. We will teach the games and provide food & interesting beverages. All guests who signed up for this party in the 2009 auction will automatically be included in this event. Join Thalia Chaltas and Pearl Francis (Jam Makers Extraordinaire) as they offer a unique opportunity to learn the art of jam-making. They will take each guest through the entire process -- preparing, cooking, and canning tasty jam from home-grown fruit. Simple, safe and effective canning techniques will be used. JULY 2010 Wine and Olive Oil Tasting Olive Hill Farms and the Gainey Vineyard invite you to an afternoon of sampling the finest wines and olive oils the Santa Ynez Valley has to offer. Your day begins with a private guided tour of the Gainey Vineyard and includes tasting of locally produced wines and olive oils. To cap off your experience, delight in a picnic lunch under the oak trees as you take in the breathtaking views of the Santa Ynez mountains. Transportation to and from Gainey Vineyard is included. Juniper and Charlie had a fantastic time last year hosting this day of protected climbing and are offering it again. This time for four families split on two separate occasions. Charlie is a Certified Rock Instructor with American Mountain Guide Association and climbs with his wife Juniper on rocks throughout California. All gear will be provided as well as a picnic lunch. Professional hair stylists and make up artists will create a glamorous new you. Then SBMS's amazing photographer Anne Hall will take your personal portrait. A once in a lifetime event. After the event ( if you wish) you can go out to dinner with all the other gorgeous ladies, and strut your coiffeured pampered stuff! Is Capture the flag too tame for you? Does American Football seem slow? Well this is the party for you. A great opportunity to play the traditional game that originated at Rugby school in England 1823. Here you will discover a maul, a ruck and a scrum. Come join SBMS rugby coach and Ivy League college player, Mark Montgomery, and Allwyn Fitzpatrick for a few hours of family fun. Lunch and beverages (beer for adults) will be provided. Along with a special rugby t-shirt! You are never too young to enjoy pampered toes and nail art! Join your girlfriends at the spa getting a pedicure while sipping sparkling lemonade and nibbling on delightful desserts. Come and let your creative energies flow. Frances will show you how to make amazing and unique masterpieces by only using rubber bands. You will be designing your own individual pieces. Transforming pjs, pillows and t- shirts from the mundane to the fantastic. This art form dates back centuries (not just to the 1960’s hippy movement which made it famous). You can always design a modern version of the “peace” sign. Groovy man! Or something completely different. You choose! And this wonderful afternoon will culminate in a delicious BBQ dinner. Partner dancing and creative movement, singing, instrument play and LOTS of Family Enjoyment for all ages....The Kindermusik International program has been influenced by Maria Montessori's unique outlook from its initial development. “A child learns best through multi-sensory experiences. If a child can participate in a concept with his touch, smell, hearing and sight, the concept will be much more impacting and memorable.” (Maria Montessori) Come and participate in a fun-filled party designed to delight children from 18 months to 9 years (and their parents)! NOVEMBER 2010 Wine and Author Party (or How to be a children's book author in three hours, with three glasses of wine, and three magic beans) An intimate look at the bunny-eat-bunny world of children’s publishing with two successful, award winning, and delightfully dynamic (not to mention very silly) authors, Thalia Chaltas and Lee Wardlaw. Lee and Thalia tell all about fairy godagents, big bad editors, Paul Bunyon-esque publishers, Rapunzel style promotion and how to spin straw into golden threaded stories. So don your glass slippers and come have a ball! Ever wondered how to create your own individual jewelry? Then this is the party for you! Santa Barbara's Adult Education Specialist Laura Gasparini will show you how to use a variety of different beads, pearls, charms and gemstones to design your own unique leather multi strand lariat. While you are "hard at work" making your trendy leather necklace, tasty appetizers will be served to keep your creativity flowing! Spend an afternoon baking and decorating. Party goers will learn the basics of icing, working with fondant and making simple decorations. Each participant will go home with their very own cake and a book of recipes from the party. Sure to be a messy, tasty time! DECEMBER 2010 French Cooking and Dinner Back by Popular Demand! JANUARY 2011 Wilderness Survival Skills Course Have you ever been lost in the woods? Have you stepped off a trail momentarily to answer "nature's call" and got turned around? Have you ever dared walk into the wilderness with the clothes on your back planning on a six month stay? Most of us who brave the wildness of nature take precautions and bring things like lighters, sleeping bags, tents, more food than we will ever eat, some water and maybe a wine opener. It's someone else that gets lost in the woods.... not us, right? Well, thankfully the great skills that kept our ancestors alive have not vanished. Join us for a fun filled day of nature based activities like friction fire making, shelter building and awareness games. Pot luck lunch. Wine and cheese provided. People are still buzzing about last year's West Coast premier of SBMS' Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. But hang onto your hats, this year the west gets wilder! Saddle up and join us for a rootin', tootin', shootin' good time. Come explore your inner villain, outlaw, damsel in distress, rustler, gunslinger, tenderfoot, snake oil salesman, barkeep, grave robber, or undertaker. All attendees arrive in costume as a dinner guest . Then you will watch the show and be deputized to solve the murder before the sheriff does. (Heck, the sheriff may get shot, but we will not shoot the deputies.) All the actor roles are played by talented SBMS staff and parents. For those of you who have ever wanted to make a killing onstage, this is your big chance. Grub and grog will be served on the house -- bar brawls and duels provided at no extra charge. "Almost Sleepover" Party Come and drop off the kids at school for an evening of " almost sleepover" fun. Children are dropped off at 5:00 pm wearing their Pj's and carrying sleeping bags. For the next couple of hours Allwyn and Brian will amuse and exhaust them!
They will be making Valentine's Day themed crafts , playing games and dancing and then they will have a delicious dinner. While the children are having a blast it is the perfect opportunity for parents to seize the moment and go out on a date night. Then after your romantic child free evening collect your exhausted but happy children at 9pm. A sleepover party without the sleeping part! Children will ride in the school van to Montecito and will work in teams with a dental assistant or dentist. The goal is to take the "scare" out of a dental visit and have some fun doing it. We will show how fillings are done (on models of course), learn about what foods are good for your teeth and the best ways to take great care of your smile. We will end the day with a visit to Scoop next door for some sugar-free gelato.... Each child will receive a Oral Hygiene package including a children's Sonicare toothbrush.
